Parenting Counseling & Support

Trauma-informed parenting support for caregivers seeking to strengthen connection, build trust, and better understand their child’s needs throughout South Jordan and the surrounding Salt Lake Valley.

At Hope and Healing Child and Family Counseling, we believe that supporting a child begins with supporting the adults who care for them. Parenting children who have experienced trauma, neglect, abuse, disrupted attachment, or other difficult life experiences can be challenging, and traditional parenting strategies do not always address the needs underlying a child’s behaviors.

Our parent counseling services are grounded in trauma-informed and attachment-focused approaches, including Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®), Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP). These approaches help parents better understand how a child’s experiences can influence their emotional regulation, relationships, communication, and behavior.

Through counseling, parents learn to look beyond the behavior and ask, “What is my child communicating, and what do they need from me right now?” We help caregivers recognize the impact of trauma and developmental experiences while developing practical strategies to create greater safety, connection, consistency, and trust.

Parent counseling may focus on:

  • Understanding behaviors through a trauma-informed and developmental lens
  • Strengthening attachment and connection between parents and children
  • Supporting children who struggle with emotional regulation, trust, or communication
  • Responding to challenging behaviors with greater confidence and consistency
  • Learning strategies to help children feel safe, understood, and connected
  • Building healthy boundaries while maintaining connection and compassion
  • Understanding how a child’s developmental history may affect current behavior
  • Supporting children who have experienced neglect, abuse, foster care, adoption, or disrupted relationships
  • Helping parents move from simply managing behaviors toward understanding and meeting the needs beneath them
