Childhood and adolescence are often imagined as carefree years, yet many children and teens experience significant worry, fear, sadness, anger, or emotional distress. When these experiences become overwhelming, they can affect a young person’s relationships, sense of self, development, and ability to engage in the activities and experiences that are meaningful to them.

At Hope and Healing Child and Family Counseling, we take a psychodynamic approach to understanding anxiety and depression. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we seek to understand the child’s unique story and the experiences that may be shaping how they understand themselves and the world around them. Early relationships, family history, difficult or traumatic experiences, temperament, and other factors can all play a role in a child’s emotional life.

Through a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, we help children and adolescents explore and make sense of their feelings, develop greater self-understanding, and discover healthier ways of coping with difficult emotions. We also work with parents and caregivers to better understand their child’s experience and strengthen the relationships that support healing.

Our goal is to help children move beyond simply managing anxiety or depression—to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, heal from difficult experiences, strengthen their relationships, and reconnect with the people, activities, and parts of life that bring them meaning and joy.
